Claude Code requires Node.js. To avoid configuration issues during manual installation, use Qwen Code to install and verify it.

Use Claude Code ​

  1. Open a terminal, navigate to your project directory, and start Claude Code:

  2. Enter /status to confirm that the model, base URL, and API key are configured correctly.

  3. Start a conversation in Claude Code.

Switch models ​

  1. Switch at startup: Run claude --model <model_name> in the terminal to specify a model and start Claude Code. For example, claude --model qwen3-coder-next.

  2. During a session: Enter the /model <model_name> command in the dialog box to switch models. For example, /model qwen3-coder-next.

Extend capabilities ​

Claude Code supports extending its capabilities through MCP and Skills. For example, you can add a web search to get real-time information or use a visual understanding Skill to analyze images. See Best practices.

Use the Claude Code IDE plugin ​

The Claude Code IDE plugin works with VS Code, VS Code-based IDEs (such as Cursor and Trae), and JetBrains IDEs (such as IntelliJ IDEA and PyCharm).

  1. First, configure Coding Plan in Claude Code. For Windows, you also need to install WSL or Git for Windows.

  2. Open VS Code, search for Claude Code for VS Code in the extension marketplace, and install it.

  3. After installation, restart VS Code. Click the icon in the upper-right corner to open Claude Code and start a conversation.

If the Anthropic logon interface appears, you have not yet configured Coding Plan in Claude Code. Complete the configuration before proceeding.

  1. Switch models: Switch the model configuration in Claude Code. Then, start a new conversation in the IDE plugin for the change to take effect.

  2. First, install Claude Code and configure Coding Plan in Claude Code.

  3. Open a JetBrains IDE, such as IntelliJ IDEA or PyCharm, search for Claude Code in the extension marketplace, and install it.

  4. After installation, restart the IDE. Click the icon in the upper-right corner to use the plugin. You can switch models with the /model <model_name> command.

If the Not logged in. Please run /login error appears, you have not yet configured Coding Plan in Claude Code. Complete the configuration before proceeding.

FAQ ​

Error: API Error: Unable to connect to API (ECONNRESET) ​

This error is caused by a network connectivity issue on the client and is not related to your configuration. It usually resolves on its own. Try the following:

  1. Wait a few minutes and retry.

  2. Check your network connectivity.

  3. If you are using a proxy or VPN, disable it and retry.

  4. Upgrade Claude Code to the latest version: npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code@latest.

Error: Unable to connect to Anthropic services. Failed to connect to api.anthropic.com: ERR_BAD_REQUEST ​

This error indicates that Claude Code is connecting to the official Anthropic service instead of the Coding Plan server. This usually occurs because the environment variables are not configured correctly or have not taken effect. To troubleshoot:

  1. Check the config file: Confirm that ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL and ANTHROPIC_AUTH_TOKEN are correctly configured in ~/.claude/settings.json.

  1. Check for environment variable conflicts: If you set ANTHROPIC_BASE_URL through both an environment variable and the config file, ensure both point to the same Coding Plan address to avoid conflicts. Run the following command to check:

If the output is empty or points to an address other than the Coding Plan address, clear the environment variable or set it to the correct Coding Plan base URL.

  1. Confirm hasCompletedOnboarding: Verify that hasCompletedOnboarding is set to true in ~/.claude.json. Otherwise, Claude Code will connect to the official Anthropic service for logon validation at startup.

  2. Reopen the terminal: After modifying the config file, open a new terminal and run claude for the changes to take effect.

Best practices ​

1. Context management ​

  • Clear promptly: Use /clear to reset the conversation regularly. This prevents old context from interfering with new tasks and saves tokens.

  • Compress proactively: Use /compact to have Claude summarize key decisions and modified files to retain core memory.

  • Specify files explicitly: When asking questions, use the at sign (@) to reference files (for example, write a test for @auth.py). This prevents the model from unnecessarily scanning the entire project.

  • Use sub-agents effectively: For large-scale tasks, have Claude start sub-agents. After a sub-agent completes a task, it returns a refined conclusion, which protects the main conversation's context space.

2. Plan first, then execute ​
  • Enable Plan mode: Before starting a complex task, analyze the solution without modifying any files.

    • Shortcut: Press Shift + Tab twice to enter Plan Mode.

    • Prompt constraint: Use a prompt that explicitly requests, "First, output a detailed implementation plan. After I confirm it, then modify the files."

  • Reduce trial-and-error costs: Ensure that the logic is complete before you make code changes.
3. Consolidate core project knowledge: write CLAUDE.md ​

  • Include key information: CLAUDE.md is loaded at session start. Add general rules such as build commands, code specifications, and workflows.

  • Maintain dynamically: Keep the content concise. Record only widely applicable conventions and add new rules as the project evolves.

4. Extend capabilities: MCP and Skills ​

  • MCP: Install a mature MCP Server to connect to external services. For example, add a web search MCP.

  • Skills: Write detailed Skill descriptions. Claude decides whether to call a tool based on the definition of its purpose. For example, add a visual understanding Skill.

  • Skills vs. MCP: Skills teach Claude "how to do" something (workflow knowledge), while MCP gives Claude "tools to do it" (external interfaces). They are complementary, and Skills can also integrate external interfaces.

5. Automated safeguards: Hooks ​

  • Use Hooks: Hooks are deterministic rules that automatically run local scripts at specific lifecycle nodes (such as PreToolUse for pre-execution validation). This ensures critical validations always run.

  • Configuration methods:

  1. Run /hooks for interactive configuration.

  2. Directly edit .claude/settings.json.

  3. Have Claude write it for you. For example: "Write a hook that runs eslint after every file edit."

  • Enforce validation: Require Claude to run tests (such as pytest or npm test) after modifying code.

  • Define success criteria: "After the modification is complete, ensure the build passes, and run curl to verify the API returns 200."
